Youth Group Winter Water Park Trip 2007
The Meeting House youth program includes not only Sunday-morning Christian education but youth fellowships widely known for their popular trips and retreats, service projects, and interschool friendships. The program guides Meeting House youth in understanding the teen world and deciding how to relate and react as Christians.

Christian Education, Grades 6-12

All youth meet Sunday mornings from 9:30 until 10:40 am (no summer classes) for a time of Christian education and spiritual formation.

Middle schoolers (grades 6-8) focus on Bible stories or church history, and how those events shape them as teens today.

Confirmation (grades 9 and above) is a 9-month period of study and discernment, during which the youth have the opportunity to take a deeper look at their faith and discover how they can become more involved in the life of the church. At the conclusion (usually on Pentecost), members of the confirmation class have the opportunity to publicly profess their faith.

Senior Highs (grades 9-12) meet in the new youth space. The Bible based curriculum focuses on connecting faith and life. Each week youth are challenged to take a look at the world in which they live and the issues they encounter each day and discern how they, as Christ’s disciples, should react and relate.

Youth Fellowships

Help the Homeless Walkathon 2006
Fellowship on Sunday nights. Both middle school (grades 7-8) and high school (grades 9-12) fellowships meet from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday nights. A typical evening starts with games followed by dinner for the whole group. Then the groups separate for discussions that relate to today’s youth. Each month the program includes at least one service project, such as sponsoring a family for Christmas or making Stockings for Soldiers. As well, there are strictly fun events like laser tag or baseball games.

Middle school special events. Service Week is a popular June event, during which the middle school youth offer Christian service to various populations and ages, such as serving meals at a homeless shelter or helping at the local animal shelter. Middle school youth also take trips and retreats to camps, ski resorts, and other exciting places. During the summer, they attend Massanetta Springs Middle School Conference.

Current issues facing youth today, living a Christian life, and exploring Christianity for their own faith understanding are some of the areas of discussion during senior highs’ Sunday night fellowship. In addition Senior Highs have service projects, trips, and retreats such as the annual ski retreat, and the Synod Youth Leadership Development Event.

During the summer Senior Highs attend Montreat Youth Conference in Montreat, North Carolina. There is also an exciting opportunity to be part of West Virginia and Mexico work camp missions.

Presbyterian Youth Connection

ImageNational Capital Presbytery PYC (Presbyterian Youth Connection) is an opportunity for youth and adults to work with each other connecting young people together, the whole church, and the world through faith in Jesus Christ.

OPMH has one adult and one youth representative to the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic Youth Council. One adult and one youth served as representatives to the National Presbyterian Youth Ministries Council. You can find out more about Synod Youth Council at www.synatlantic.org and about the Presbyterian Youth Connection at www.pcusa.org.

Collegiates

The Meeting House is beginning to develop a web presence for its collegiates. Here are links of interest:

The National Volunteers Office at PC(USA). Check out their website at www.pcusa.org!

OPMH also tries to keep our college students connected through Care Packages for Collegiates, inviting collegiates to participate in worship when they are home for holidays, our annual collegiate dinner, and participation in our summer mission projects. Collegiates are always welcome to go to Montreat Youth Conference and help out as work crew!
