Hundreds of Meeting House children participate in the engaging Christian education program, which is tailored to children’s ages and interests. Education professionals plan the program, and scores of parents and Meeting House members volunteer their time to teach and carry it out.

Young children and child care

Infant and toddler nurseries are staffed by paid caregivers and volunteers during Sunday school and both worship services on Sunday mornings.  Even before children are old enough to understand the faith stores, they come to love and trust those who tell them.  Child care is available for other special services and programs.

Sunday school

ImageSunday school classes are held from 9:30-10:40 am, with no summer classes.  Newcomers, who are warmly welcomed at any time, may inquire on Sunday mornings at the Christian Education office, 318 S. Royal Street, for directions and further information.

Classes are offered for children aged 3 years through 6 years.  These children learn Bible stories using God Loves Me and Live in Faith Everyday, published by CRC.

Children in grades 1-5 join The Journey, our the Workshop Rotation classes.  Children explore  Bible stories using a variety of media and activities.

ImageWorship education

Bridges to Worship is offered for children in age 5 years-Grade 2 during the 11:00 am worship service. Bridges to Worship uses the Godly Play curriculum, a multi-sensory program structured much like a worship service with songs, prayers, stories, and ritual.

A sacraments workshop is offered for kindergarten children and their parents to learn about baptism and communion, the two sacraments celebrated by PC(USA).  There is special emphasis on preparing children to participate in communion during worship.

Third graders are treated to a special “Using Your Bible” workshop in preparation for receiving their first personal Bible, a gift from the Meeting House.

Vacation Bible School is offered one week each summer.  Bible stories, missions, music and fun make this a highlight of the summer.

Other resources

A children’s library--located on the first floor of the education building--offers children’s Bibles and Christian storybooks. There is also an extensive parent resource collection available to Meeting House parents and parents whose children participate in the Meeting House Cooperative Preschool.
