Meeting House Worshipers: Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

Sermon           Faith for the Journey— Dr. Pauw

            Our guest preacher for today is the Rev. Dr. Amy Plantinga Pauw, the Henry P. Mobley, Jr. Professor of Doctrinal Theology at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.   Dr. Pauw holds degrees from Calvin College, Fuller Seminary, and Yale University.  Her research and writing include works on Jonathan Edwards, feminism, and Reformed Theology.  She has also written devotional guides for pre-teens.                         

Confirmation:  Profession of Faith and Renewal of the Baptismal Vows (11:00).

            This Sunday, this year’s confirmation class will make their pubic profession of faith during the 11:00 worship service.  Everyone is invited to a reception in their honor in Heritage Hall immediately following the service.

 

 

Christian Education for all ages from 9:40 – 10:40am.

For Children and Youth:  Classes meet for all ages.  Children in grades 1-5 continue a series of workshops learning about our worship service.  Members of the Senior High Sunday School class are leading these workshops.  Please check the directory board for grade and workshop assignments.

This Sunday: OPMH member and former Virginia Governor Mark Warner (April 20)

“Imagine" NOVAM's (Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry) annual fundraiser will be on Sat., evening, April 26.  A group of Alexandria churches will gather for dinner at St. Clements Episcopal Church and attendees will then go on to join the larger party at the Torpedo Factory.  For information and reservations, call Elsie Mosqueda at 703-549-0190. 

 

Concert with a Cause: Sunday, April 27 at 3:00 pm – Children’s Chorus of Washington, Joan Gregoryk, Founder and Artistic Director. This professional children’s chorus has sung in such prestigious venues as the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. They have performed great woks with many distinguished groups, including the National Symphony Orchestra, the Washington Chorus, Choral Arts Society, Cathedral Choral Society, and Master Chorale. The benefit is the United Orphanage and Academy in Moi’s Bridge, Kenya.

SPIRIT Group Outing to Fredericksburg on April 30: Plans are to allow a choice of visits to two different sites. One option is Belmont, the former residence of American figure painter Gari Melchers. The second option is the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park. Lunch will follow at Brock’s Riverside Grill, overlooking the Rappahannock River in Old Town Fredericksburg.

 

Vacation Bible School 2008 will be held June 23-27. Mexico Mission Work Camp – Members and friends of OPMH will travel to Reynosa, Mexico from July 20-26 to build a home for a Mexican family in partnership with Faith Ministries. Registration and a 50% deposit must be received in the Church Office by April 30. Ongoing Events:

First Sundays with the Stephen Ministers: Stephen Ministers hosts an informal time of fellowship on the first Sunday of each month for those who are experiencing a difficult or challenging time and would welcome a willing listener. We meet in the Elliot House parlor following the 11:00 am service.
