STATED MEETING OF SESSION
OLD PRESBYTERIAN MEETING HOUSE
AUGUST 27, 2007

INITIAL ACTS
The meeting was called to order with prayer in Heritage Hall by the Moderator, the Rev. Dr. Robert Laha, Jr., at 7:06 p.m. The Moderator noted that a quorum was present.

The pastors shared pastoral concerns within the Congregation and Elder Douglass shared a devotion on St. Francis of Assisi.

    This meeting was the first stated meeting of Session since the ordination and installation of the Class of 2010 on May 13, 2007.  As presently comprised, the Session (excluding Clergy) has 12 women and 12 men; there are 2 younger members, 19 middle-aged members and 3 senior members.  There are no disabilities among the elders and all are Caucasian.  This profile is generally representative of the Congregation.

    The minutes of the stated meeting of May 29, 2007, the called meetings of June 10, 2007, June 17, 2007 July 29, 2007, and August 5, 2007, and the called Congregational meeting of July 1, 2007 were moved, seconded and approved as distributed.

2.     COMMUNICATIONS – The Clerk acknowledged receipt of a communication from National Capital Presbytery informing the Meeting House of the examination of its records on Saturday, October 13; a communication from National Capital Presbytery regarding the June Presbytery Meeting, and a communication regarding a change to the Book of Order relating to the Certified Christian Educator’s responsibility to report abuse. The Clerk also noted receipt of a survey on interim ministries that she will complete on behalf of session. Finally, the Clerk noted a thank you from Kirkwood Presbyterian Church for permitting them to use Heritage Hall for a session retreat.The Moderator noted a communication from Mark J. and Lynne Gustin Leimkuhler requesting that they be moved to the inactive rolls because they have moved from the Old Town area.  The Moderator also noted a thank you note from Princeton Theological Seminary for a contribution in support of Kevin Lind, and a thank you note from NOVAM for a contribution.

SPECIAL REPORTS

    Report of Session Representative to Presbytery – The Moderator noted a new process for examination and ordination of candidates for ministry.

6.     STANDING MINISTRIES:  In addition to the written reports distributed prior to and at the meeting, the following matters were addressed during the meeting:

    MINISTRY OF EDUCATION – Elder Sanderson and Director of Christian Education Andre-Colton circulated a list of education leaders and outline of curriculum for children and calendar of activities for the youth.
     Elder Sanderson moved that Session approve the list of education leaders and outline of the curriculum for the church year. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously.

       MINISTRY OF STEWARDSHIP – Elder Johnson noted completion of the annual financial review of the books and records of the church by members versed in accounting procedures, with a final report to be provided to the Clerk.

    MINISTRY OF ADMINISTRATION – Elders Feaver and Pugh reported that they have reviewed the insurance coverage of the Church and it has property and liability insurance coverage to protect the facilities, programs, and officers.

    Elder Cassidy and the Moderator acknowledged the resignation of the Minister of Music, Wayne Earnest and a proper celebration of his music ministry was discussed.

7.     NEW BUSINESS. None.

    
8.     ADJOURN/PRAYER – The meeting adjourned with prayer by Elder Johnson at 8:35 p.m.
