The focus is on transportation this month. Have you ever considered commuting to work or running errands in a different manner? Taking public transit, biking, or walking are all ways to connect with your neighborhood while reducing your carbon footprint (amount of greenhouse gas (CO2) emitted through burning fossil fuels). Back-to-School Drive: Thanks to all for your generous support of the back-to-school program again this year. We are pleased to let you know that a total of $1,527 has been collected for the Deacon-sponsored effort to provide needy children back-to-school materials. Because of your generosity, more than 35 children will be able to have full, new backpacks as they go to school this fall. Churchwide News:Help Wanted: Priscilla is looking for someone with wallpaper skills to put up the border in the infant nursery and someone who sews to make simple curtains for the windows. Contact her in the office if you can do either of these projects.Advent Devotional Work Group - The Worship Ministry is looking for a new editor and others to produce the Advent Devotional and other devotional aids. Writing for the Advent Devotional is done by members of the Meeting House community. The writings can be a reflection on a lectionary reading, a personal recollection of the season, or a poem or short prose piece by a favorite writer. The production structure such as lectionary readings, page format and schedules are well established, so this is not a project that must be worked up from scratch. If you feel comfortable writing and editing, this may be a Meeting House activity for you. Since writing is submitted and edited via emails, basic computer skills are needed. And it would be great if someone with graphic skills would get involved. If you would like to participate in these projects or just want to see if you would have time to do so, please call John Hitchcock at 703-329-2259 or email him at
