Westminster Hall: The Bible Study on Philippians: Joy Under Stress continues through April 15.

Thursday Morning Bible Study: Blessed are you: The Beatitudes of Jesus in Scripture and in Life. Meets in Flounder House through March 29. Priscilla Andre-Colton leads this discussion of what it means to be blessed and how it affects our daily walk with Christ. For more information contact Priscilla.

 Fellowship, Study, and Prayer Groups:Youth: Discussions about when you and your family don’t get along. First Sundays with the Stephen Ministers: An informal time of fellowship following the 11:00 am service (the first Sunday of each month) in the Elliot House Parlor. We welcome all who are experiencing loss or struggling to find joy in their lives to meet, one-on-one, with a Stephen Minister. Call Susan Grandy (703.836.6701) if you have questions.

 Mission

Larger Church Committee: We are exploring ways to support an organized approach to influencing public policy in a manner that reflects God’s will on earth. The committee seeks to do this thoughtfully, collaboratively, and prayerfully. An initial meeting to discuss an advocacy effort about protecting the environment will take place on Tues., March 27 in Westminster Hall from 7:30 – 9:30 pm. All are welcome to attend.

Katrina Update: Cancelled. This was not a good date for those who expressed an interest in going.

Lenten Challenge: Do you want to do something that doubles in value? Make a Lenten gift to the United Orphanage and Academy in Moi’s Bridge, Kenya. The orphanage is home to 43 children. A Westminster member has offered to match gifts to the orphanage up to $10,000 as a Lenten challenge. Please consider taking the challenge and helping provide $15,000 to support the purchase of a van to transport the children to school and medical facilities, $4,000 to replace the mud hut that is currently being used as a kitchen and $2,000 to build a fence aroune the property to increase security. Make checks to OPMH with “Orphanage challenge” in the memo field. Over $1,190 was already collected in the last two weeks. Contact Judith Dahmann or Rhonda O’Bannon for more information.

One Great Hour of sharing: Fish banks will be collected on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday..

 Church NewsLenten Soup, Study, and Vespers – The final Lenten program will be held on Wednesday, March 28. Meeting in Fellowship Hall at 6:30 for soup, salad and fellowship. At 7:00, Dr Joyce Mercer will lead a Lenten study entitled Hope in the Desert. At 8:00, we will move to the sanctuary for evening vespers.Holy Week Services: Palm Sunday, April 2 at 8:30 and 10:45 am. Maundy Thursday, April 5 at 7:30 pm. Good Friday, April 6 at 12:00 noon. Easter Sunday, April 8 at 8:30 and 10:45 am. Congregational Meeting: A brief congregational meeting will be held after the 11:00 am worship service this Sunday. The purpose is to elect new officers for the class of 2010, and to fill unexpired terms.
