“And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’” Matthew 25:40

Active local mission work has been a hallmark of the Meeting House for many decades. Several of the city's best known mission programs were founded at the Meeting House, and members continue to donate hundreds of hours of time and talent to local causes each year. In order to choose among many worthy causes and better direct Meeting House time and resources, the Local Mission committee has developed objectives and programs, which follow.

Local Missions program objectives are to:

  • Encourage donations of volunteer time and money by OPMH members in support of local efforts to alleviate the consequences of poverty

  • Encourage family mission involvement through intergenerational programs

  • Provide emergency financial assistance to the working poor

  • Establish local partnerships that lessen need in four areas:

These partnerships also enable the Meeting House to gain greater understanding of other groups within the Alexandria Christian community.

Local Mission programs include:

  • Family-to-Family Ministry , a primary local resource for emergency financial assistance

  • Volunteer and financial support for many local nonprofit organizations
