"...For All We Need is Faith Working Through Love" --Galatians 5:6

National/global Missions at the Meeting House are quite different from those at many churches, because here members regularly pack their bags and travel the globe to personally help those in need, in conjunction with a series of international Meeting House mission partners. In so doing, OPMH members demonstrate the grace of God and Christian love in places far from Alexandria.  In order to focus these efforts and choose among many worthy causes, the mission committee has laid out objectives to direct church member involvement and funding support.

National/global Missions program objectives are to:

  • Exercise compassion, establish justice and peace, and care for creation
  • Create youth mission opportunities
  • Focus on poverty, health, and education for those in need
  • Partner with other churches, globally and nationally
  • Center on personal interactions—especially work camps and missions trips—that build relationships
  • Build mission programs based on understanding derived from the relationships.

National/global Missions programs include:

  • Basic mission support through PC(USA), in areas where missions is best executed  at a regional or national level
  • Global partnerships—formed by the congregation—with people and organizations in various countries:

Personal involvement in mission activities is important to Meeting House members.  Mission trips and work camps in the U.S. and internationally are sponsored throughout the year.

The year 2007 brings several mission trips:

  • Hurricane Katrina Relief—week-long trips in April and November, Bay St Louis, Mississippi
  • Kenya—dates TBA, Moi’s Bridge and Elburgon, Kenya.
  • Mexico—July 15–21, house-building trip to Reynosa, Mexico (Faith Ministries)
