What is the Ministry of Worship? This ministry supports all worship and related activities in the church, including all regular and special services, seasonal worship events, and preparation of printed devotional materials. Members of the Worship Committee organize the lay volunteers who serve as ushers, Scripture readers, greeters, sound system operators, communion preparers, flower arrangers. The committee coordinates with church staff in preparing special worship services, the bulletin, and weddings. The committee oversees the Meeting House music program. The Sanctuary Guild tends to the furnishings of the sanctuary. Special services at the Meeting House have included summer evening worship, Advent evening and Lenten morning services, and other supplemental worship services. Check the churchwide Calendar of Events for upcoming worship events. Musical services and special concerts are an important part of church outreach to the community. “Concerts with a Cause” are underwritten by the church, enabling 100 percent of the freewill offerings received to be donated to designated charitable causes. In 2005 over 1,000 people attended seven free Concerts with a Cause and contributed over $10,000 that was given to various church-supported causes in the community. Special all-music services are held at Easter and Christmas times. The Meeting House also hosts performers during Alexandria’s First Night festivities on New Year’s Eve.
