Middle schoolers (grades 6-8) focus on Bible study and life application, faith in action, and developing faith practices as they grow in their understanding of what it means to be a Christian teenager.

Confirmation, for youth in grades 9 and above, is a 9-month period of study and discernment in preparation for making the first public profession of faith.  The program includes an 8-week class study, attendance at the Reformed Institute’s confirmation event in March, regular meetings with a sponsor and completion of a number of required activities in the life of the church, such as worship leadership, teaching younger children,  service projects and Bible study.  Upon completion of the course members of the confirmation class write a personal statement of faith and are examined and received by the Session.

Communion Preparation Class

In the Presbyterian Church “[those] baptized children who are being nurtured and instructed in the significance of the invitation to the Table and the meaning of their response are invited to receive the Lord’s Supper, recognizing that their understanding of participation will vary according to their maturity.” (W-2.4011 a,b).

Saturday, October 6, 9:30-11:00 am will be the first class this fall.  Call the Church Office for details.

Bridges to Worship

According to our Book of Order, “[those] exercising parental responsibility should teach their children about Christian worship by example,…by discussion and instruction…”  Directory for Worship, W-5.7002.

To support parents in this endeavour we offer Bridges to Worship, an opportunity for children age 5 through 2nd grade to experience worship in an age-appropriate form.  Children attend worship in the Sanctuary with their families through the Time with Children.  They are then invited to the Education Building where they are divided into two groups and meet in Rooms 26 and Heaven.  Parents are asked to go with their child the first time they attend.  Children should be picked up immediately following worship.

“In the service of Baptism the congregation, trusting in the power of the Holy Spirit, and on behalf of the universal Church, pledges responsibility for Christian nurture. The session and elders are responsible for providing for the development and supervision of the educational program of the church… Parents or those exercising parental responsibility share the faith of the church with children…” Directory for Worship, W-6.2005   “The Christian community provides nurture for its member through all of life and life’s transitions.

The church offers nurture to those entering the community, preparing for Baptism, including them in the life of the community, welcoming them to participate in its worship and to come to the Lord’s Table, assisting them to claim their identity as believers in Jesus Christ, equipping them to live as disciples in the world… Directory for Worship, W-6.2000
